A Few Fundraising Announcements

Bike MS is just 3 weeks away!! Here are a few important announcements regarding fundraising:

  • We need help distributing posters for our MS Bites fundraiser! MS Bites is only 2 weeks away and we need to get the word out there. If you are able to distribute posters and/or postcards to your local businesses, your place of work, community center, etc, please reach out to Tommi at 425-941-7914 or tommibike @ gmail.com
  • We have a chance to win Bike MS Goodie Bags for the whole team! Each team that recruits three or more people between July 6-26 will get entered to win a Bike MS Goodie Bag for EVERY person on your team.
  • We could also win a custom team tent makeover! The TEAM who raises the most $$ in the month of July will find 3 ambitious volunteers ready with cool decorations (or your own) to make your tent and table all fancy and stuff. (Come on Team! We work hard enough, so let’s win this and then sit back and let the volunteers make our tent awesome!)
  • Don’t forget you can roll away with a Fat Tire bicycle when you rock your fundraising! For every $100 you raise between July 6-26, you’ll be entered to win a cruiser bicycle and a mini-keg from New Belgium brewing. (Donated by Bike MS rider Rod Walker. Thanks, Mr. Walker, for keeping us riding!)
  • · Let your team know – If you’re in the Portland area, join us for our training ride/packet pickup party on July 19th at Western Bikeworks in Tigard. Details coming soon, so keep an eye on your emails.

Thank you again for helping create a world free of MS.

Upcoming Training Rides!

A note from co-captain Matt on upcoming training rides:

Hope you have been able to enjoy the beautiful weather and heat this year.  Who has been getting out on their bikes?  Sorry I didn’t get a training ride out to the team over the holiday weekend, but spent the Fouth on a soul crushing 77.7 miler in Bend, OR:

https://www.strava.com/activities/339128115

I promise not to put you through this kind of torture, but if you are up for it let me know!

This Sunday, join us for a ride on the Banks-Vernonia Trail:

http://www.oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=main.loadFile&load=_siteFiles/publications/bv.pdf

This beautiful trail is open to only pedestrian traffic and is a linear 21 miles one-way.  If you are comfortable with the whole 42, that’s what we’ll do.  If you want to do less you can chose your own adventure and still be assured of a comfortable yet picturesque ride.

Departure time: 9am at the Banks Trailhead Parking Lot:

Let me know if you need any more details!

On July 19th, Western Bikeworks is hosting a training ride with 30 and 70 mile options that are supported rides.  Starting point is the Tigard location:

TIGARD: (open now!)
7295 SW Dartmouth St.
Tigard, OR 97223

For the weekend before the big event, on Saturday July 25th, at 9am I’ll be leading a final training ride in Portland.  This route will start in Lake Oswego at George Rogers Park, wrap around the Lake before following Terwilliger to Council Crest.  After soaking in the one of the best views in the city, we’ll drop downtown and cross Hawthorne bridge following the Springwater to the Sellwood bridge.  After crossing, we’ll enjoy a moderate climb through the cemetary before meetin up with Terwilliger again for the decent into Lake Oswego and return to George Rogers Park.

Here’s a rough sketch of the route: https://goo.gl/maps/f865t

There will be a lot of climbing in this 30 mile route so be prepared with lots of water and supplements.  Stickmen Brewery is nearby to refual after the journey…  It’ll be a great warmup before the big weekend!

Only a few weeks left and hope everyone is excited.  Look forward to spending time with everyone.

All the best,

Matt

(503)683-3210

P.S. Stay tuned for some stretching exercises that are cyling specific.  These are immensely beneficial for warmup, during breaks, and post-workout.  I use them personally and swear by them…  Brought to you by me friends at ADAPT Training.  Enjoy!

MS Bites – Call for Volunteers

Be a part of the 2nd annual MS Bites fundraiser!  I need some help to make this event as successful as possible.  If you are interested and able to help with one of the following (or have something to contribute that I’ve not listed), please reach out to me via email (tommibike at gmail.com) or phone (425.941.7914).

  • media relations (sending press releases to various publications, websites, etc)
  • entertainment solicitation (we could use one more entertainment/musical act; do you know someone??)
  • raffle prize solicitation (reaching out to businesses, etc, for donations of cool prizes)
  • raffle prize donations (do you or someone you know have something cool to donate?)
  • social media (posting on existing MS Bites social media sites and/or creating new ones)
  • poster/postcard distribution
  • help the day of (setup, teardown, hanging out in the crowd and soliciting donations, etc)
  • someone to lead a bike ride that would culminate at Cartlandia at the beginning of the event (maybe even get a bike shop to sponsor this?)
  • marketing for the above bike ride (spreading the word and getting it listed on the various bike websites and e-newsletters)

Any help, big or small, is greatly appreciated!  If you’d like to help, but can’t commit a lot, reach out and we can set you up with some small items that will still have a big impact.

Fundraiser will take place at Cartlandia on July 26th from noon-4pm.
